showers behind it, still another system that is going to bring rivers and streams up to perhaps flood stage in napa and the russian river on sunday. several bay area communities especially vulnerable to approaching storms are taking new action. amy hollyfield is live in pacifica on esplanade. >> reporter: we checked in on two spots daly city and here in pacifica. here residents aren't nervous they are so committed to this area they built in lovely space here they say the views are so wonderful, so incredible they are worth protecting. images from two years ago were unbelievable and for the -- forgetable. 50 feet of hillside disappeared two apartment buildings were condemned. as storms roll in officials say they aren't worried about

a repeat. >> we haven't seen any advanced erosion or continued since we were here two years ago. >> reporter: 320 and 330 esplanade are still empty, costs have prevented owners from protecting these apartments. the building next door is still full of residents who love living here the owner has taken steps to stabilize the hillside. >> the work the people did in this area seems to have affect. >> reporter: new problem in daly city this hillside came down two weeks ago when a pipe broke. >> we were worried more mud will flow. look at the weather. >> reporter: city officials tell abc7 news they feel confident the hillside will hold. if it doesn't, the measures they've put into place will steer the mud to the park and away from homes.

chips as you can see, what a surprise for patricia, about 4:00 this morning, this tree toppled overon to the back of her home. she was not injured. right now it -- it appears there is minimal damage to her house. she believes this could have been avoided if the city had responded to her repeated calls about the tree. she says in may she noticed it was in bad shape. it appeared to be dying. since then, she has been calling to get the city out. the department of public works spokeswoman says patricia is correct, she did everything right. due to severe budget cuts, the city has reduced the pruning cycle and believe it or not, there are now just three insect fors, tree inspectors for the entire city. -- u, this seems to be one of the consequences. carolyn tyler, abc7 news.
